“Spirit of nature” by Sophie Dalgleish

The Depot Gallery, Danks St, Waterloo

8-12 March 2011

The inspiration for many landscapes presented in this series has been from trips to the Southern Highlands in NSW, and the fjordland near Queenstown in New Zealand.

I find that Kangaroo Valley and the Cambewarra Range, along with the silken green pastures around Berry and Robertson, and the lush rainforests of Fitzroy Falls provide a wealth of eerily beautiful landscapes to inspire me.

I have focused on soft and misty landscapes in the Southern Highlands because they remind me of peaceful havens for relaxing and dreaming.

In contrast, my last two visits to the South Island of New Zealand have prompted me to paint more dark and mysterious landscapes, such as one of my favourites “The Hollyford”.
The Oak trees, Sycamores, Cork Elms and Ashes around Arrowtown have also added a new dimension to some of my most recent work.
